Wine in the Lake Zurich region

In the middle of the city, beautifully situated on Lake Zurich or on the island of Ufenau: the best wine grows everywhere in Zurich. Riesling-Silvaner, Räuschling or Pinot Noir are just some of the grape varieties that thrive here. These are pressed in the region's traditional wineries. Many of the estates can be visited and booked for private events, tastings or guided tours. The winegrowers are happy to welcome interested customers and a wine bought directly from the estate is always very special. Around Lake Zurich there is a wine-growing area of 138 hectares with numerous wineries, localities and exciting wine activities.

With around 600 winegrowers, the canton of Zurich is the most important winegrowing region in German-speaking Switzerland. The region's wine specialty is Räuschling, which nowhere else in Switzerland is as splendid and of such good quality and is ideal as an accompaniment to fish from Lake Zurich.

Today, many Lake Zurich winegrowers offer enjoyable wine-related activities. In addition, a visit to one of the wineries listed below allows you to purchase local wine in the respective stores.

Wine is not only produced in the so-called wine country in the north of the canton, but also on Lake Zurich and in the middle of the city. And not just since yesterday: old engravings show that in the 18th century practically all suitable green spaces in the city and along the lake were planted with vines.

Today, wine production in Zurich is experiencing a renaissance. With 608 hectares and around 600 winegrowers, the canton of Zurich is the most important winegrowing region in German-speaking Switzerland. The wines bottled by Zurich's winegrowers meet the tastes of wine lovers, as many awards show. The range extends from Riesling-Silvaner, Räuschling and Kerner to Gewürztraminer, Pinot Noir, Merlot and Zweigelt.

Whether directly from the winemaker, in the wine bars listed below or at the spectacular Expovina wine fair - which takes place on 12 ships moored at Bürkliplatz - a glass of Zurich wine should be sampled during a visit to Zurich.
